Ride the Biogen Roller Coaster

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010

Biogen Idec Inc. (BIIB) has a habit of going up and down. Now that Carl Icahn has a stake, I’m watching for the next drop off to pick some up.

Invesco Mortgage Capital Inc. (IVR)

Dividend. Insider purchases. Price drop. Need I say more? Ok: 5 star.

Will WX be Another BUD?

Monday, April 26th, 2010

Ok, here is the lazy part. According to a Reuter’s article, shares of WuXi (WX) did not increase as much as the offer made by Charles River in today’s trading. The lazy part is the reporter did the math for me :)

The reasoning in the article was investor confidence that the deal would go through. I missed a huge profit on BUD when In Beverage bought them and BUD dropped for the same reason. Going to think about this one, now…

Sangamo Biosciences Inc. (SGMO)

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Ok, real cheap, real lazy: SGMO tomorrow only for 5.29, then dump 2/3 of it at 6.89 and ride the rest to boom or bust. Alerted by the definitely-not-lazy Stock Gumshoe.

Navigators Group Inc. (NAVG)

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

My news trawler caught the second stock re-purchase announcement from NAVG. The numbers aren’t too bad, though nothing to make me jump right in. I have notice that insurance companies are big on the buy backs the last six months. Makes me wonder what they know that I don’t…well, all companies make me wonder that, or else I wouldn’t have to spend so much time on this :)

Especially encouraging that the Fool CAPs have it as a 5 star and the current low price was initiated by an analyst downgrade.

Health Management Associates Inc. (HMA)

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

HMA came to my attention from an article at Options Zone. I do not like the amount of debt they are carrying, which is why I have them on a low-ball watch. Other than debt, all of their other indicators are pretty darn good. Still, I see the current rally as an Indian Summer.

askStockGuru has the conservative buy today at $7.15, so I will look again when they drop to $7.50.

Novell Inc. (NOVL) As a Take Over Target

Thursday, April 1st, 2010

I got the idea from a ZDNet article. Novell does have an install base that makes it a possible take over target. While it has no debt, it is bleeding its savings out. So, if I were Mr M and A Guy, I would wait until either the price of NOVL sinks to around $4, or ignore them entirely and build relationships with their customer, then pounce when Novell goes under.

Nabi Biopharmaceuticals (NABI)

Wednesday, March 24th, 2010

They’re eating their own dog food, the Foolish CAPs are set in their direction, and even stockGuru has a fairly close re-entry point today. But NABI’s sudden climb to a new level in November 2009 has me concerned. Still, it has potential, so setting a paranoid limit buy at 5.04

Tutor Perini Corporation (TPC)

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

Fools CAPs love it and TPC is buying their own stock back in a big way, so keeping an eye on this one.

Sequenom Inc. (SQNM)

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Today dropped some 20% today. IMO, this is market paranoia on top of an adjustment. I’m making a limit buy at 4.53 in hopes of selling off at $7 and keeping some for free.
