Dodging a LANC

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

Some newsletters I take with a grain of salt, especially the one  the mentioned LANC as a strong buy today (or last nigh, I am just reading it now). But this one looks like the analysts may have missed a bet. See, this newsletter never shows me stocks that are off 20$ from the analysts 1 year prediction, in fact it is almost always stocks that are close to the prediction or over it. And, he rarely points at a symbol I can pick up a 100 share for less than $500, my preferred speculation range.

But it still looks good. The Fool CAPS have it as a 2 star,  but hard to find a bear commentary, so maybe the folks that don’t like it aren’t sure why, or maybe I missed something. If it was a 4 start, I’d buy with real money at 42.50.  Instead, I’m setting an alert for 40 to review it then, and making the limit buy at $42.50 in my WSS account.

An If Scenario

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

If I had a higher risk tolerance and more cash to spare, I’d be looking at Dean Foods (DF) today for under $19 a share. I think the drop today is just market jitters, but it could also be a precursor to an overall anti-rally (did I just coin that phrase?). Will try this on WSS and see what happens.

Synaptic Strategy Success

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

The play I chickened out of in the real world for SYNA and blogged here on Saturday worked out.  On WSS I picked up the stock at 24.99 and sold at 30.00 for a fast profit. Before I break my arm patting myself on the back, I know darn well that just as many plays have backfired, such as my repeated buys of FAZ on its way down to a huge reverse split that still has me holding and hoping for a break even that probably won’t come.

Synaptics Snapping

Saturday, August 1st, 2009

When I see a stock like SYNA drop over 30% in a day, I wonder if the traders are stupid or if they know something the rest of us don’t. I’m still not sure, so I made the buy in WallStreetSurvivor rather than with real money, though I am tempted. Today, askStockGuru has them going to the $36 range. The CAPS Fools generally like, with some healthy dissonance.

AMTC

Tuesday, June 9th, 2009

Checking this out today in my bottom trolling.  AMTC appears to be always volatile. The down swing is attractive, but I’m feel less than confident in my own guess-work today, so I only made a Wall Street Survivor buy on this one.  Let’s see what happens.
